China Would Use Force Against Taiwan as "Last Resort"
China unveiled a proposed anti- secession bill that would sanction the use of force to prevent independence by Taiwan in the event that efforts to secure peaceful reunification are unsuccessful.
``We have never foresworn the use of force,'' Wang Zhaoguo, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, said in Beijing today. Non-peaceful means would be used as a ``last resort'' when possibilities for peaceful reunification have been exhausted, he said. No timetable was given...........
