Taser tussle ends in fatal shot

A Miami-Dade police officer accidentally shocked her partner with a Taser stun gun inside a Liberty City convenience store before she shot and killed a car-theft suspect.
A Miami-Dade police officer inadvertently zapped her partner with a 50,000-volt stun gun and then pulled out her service revolver and shot and killed a car-theft suspect after he got the Taser away from her, police said Tuesday.
The man who died, Rudolph Morris, took the Taser from Officer Carol McKinnon while the prongs of the stun gun were still stuck in Officer Guipson Balthazar's leg....The incident began Sunday night when Balthazar and McKinnon chased Morris, 29, into the 18th Avenue Market in Liberty City after determining that he was driving a stolen car, police said.
Balthazar was trying to handcuff Morris inside the store.
''Morris began to physically resist the officer,'' Walters said. ``It was at this point that Officer McKinnon deployed the energized Taser, striking Officer Balthazar in the leg and incapacitating him.''McKinnon's attorney, C. Michael Cornely, said Morris tried to run out of the market, and confronted McKinnon.''It's been described to me as maybe like a half-back going through a line, bowling her over,'' Cornely said. ``She ends up on the floor of the store based on the contact he had with her.''McKinnon shot and killed Morris before he could escape from the store....
