World leaders mourn, praise John Paul II

A number of American political leaders and advocacy groups have been among those offering a vast cascade of reflections and condolences on the death of Pope John Paul II.From the famous and powerful to the poor and downtrodden, the news of the Pope's death brought prayers and sadness. In Uganda, Father Tarcisio Agostoni, an Augustinian missionary in Kitgum, Uganda, said he had just finished Mass for the Pope with about 3,000 schoolchildren.Italian missionary Father Tonino Mazzeo, OMI, stationed in Senegal, said many of the young people in his area were deeply saddened. "Although the young people were deeply saddened by the news, they were also obviously committed to live the legacy left by John Paul II and determined to be personally involved in evangelization and Christian witness as responsible Christians," including dialogue with Muslims, the missionary said.Praise for the late Pontiff also continued to stream from elsewhere in the world...
