Baghdad Gun Battle Kills 26 Insurgents

A gun battle between U.S.-led coalition forces and insurgents on the outskirts of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, killed at least 26 gunmen and wounded seven, the U.S. military said.Seven coalition soldiers were injured in the attack on a convoy at noon yesterday in the Salman Pak area, the military said in an e-mailed statement from Baghdad today. One gunman was captured, it said. The soldiers were on patrol when they were ambushed by about 40 to 50 insurgents armed with rocket-propelled grenades, or RPGs, and small arms, the military said. An Apache helicopter was called in as troops maneuvered to outflank the assailants, it said.Six grenade-launchers, 16 RPGs, 13 machine guns, 22 assault rifles, and more than 2,900 rounds of ammunition and 40 hand grenades were taken from the gunmen...
