Texans flee colossal Rita
Category 5 storm is third most intense ever
As more than 1 million people scurried to get out of the way of Hurricane Rita, the Category 5 hurricane grew more turbulent, becoming the third most intense storm in history, the National Hurricane Center said Wednesday night.
Officials said the barometric pressure near the eye of the storm was 897 millibars, a lower reading than Hurricane Katrina, which slammed into the Gulf Coast August 29.
Only Hurricane Gilbert in 1988 (888 mb), which struck Jamaica and the Yucatan Peninsula, and the Labor Day hurricane of 1935 (892 mb), which hit the Florida Keys, had lower pressures.
Max Mayfield, director of the hurricane center, said Rita could be even more damaging than Katrina....Rita brushed South Florida and the Florida Keys on Tuesday, pounding the area with heavy rain and strong winds from its outer squall bands.The storm caused storm surge flooding in some areas and spawned at least two tornadoes, forecasters said. THIS HURRICANE SEASON IS DIFFERENT ALONG WITH THE NATURE OF THE BEAST.....WHEN HURRICANE ANDREW PLOWED OUR CITIES DOWN IT DID NOT REALLY BRING MUCH WATER(TO THOSE NOT ON/NEAR COAST)....IN CONTRAST WHEN KATRINA AND RITA CAME THROUGH THIS YEAR...THEY BROUGHT WITH THEM LARGE AMOUNTS OF WATER CAUSED BY STORM SURGE AND RAIN FOR THOSE OF US NOT ON THE IMMEDIATE COAST....RAIN IN SUCH AREAS NOT ON THE IMMEDIATE COAST LEFT STREETS LOOKING LIKE CANALS.....RITA WILL BRING A DEVASTATING STORM SURGE WITH IT AND DROP LARGE AMOUNTS OF WATER EVERYWHERE INCLUDING NON COASTAL AREAS.

ANOTHER TWIST(PARDON THE PUN) WHICH THIS YEARS HURRICANES ARE BRINGING IS A LARGE AMOUNT OF TORNADOS AND SHEAR RAW POWER UNRELENTING CONSTANT WIND.....MUCH OF THE DAMAGE I OBSERVED AFTER KATRINA(A CAT 2 WHEN IT STRUCK FL-CAT 2 DO NOT NORMALLY CAUSE THE GLASS ON YOUR SLIDING DOORS AND WINDOWS TO BUBBLE IN/OUT BUT KATRINA DID) WAS DIRECTLY THE RESULT OF TORNADOS....LOT'S OF THEM EVERYWHERE.....YES WIND,TORNADOS, RAIN AND FLOODING ARE A NORMAL PART OF HURRICANES BUT THIS YEARS ARE STRONGER,DROPPING LARGE AMOUNTS OF WATER AND SPAWNING MANY-MASSIVE-TORNADOS....SO IN CONCLUSION....ANYONE IN THE POSSIBLE PATH OF THIS STORM WHO CAN, SHOULD SEEK SAFE SHELTER AS FAR AS POSSIBLE..THOSE WHO CHOOSE TO RIDE THIS ONE OUT MAY BE MAKING A DEADLY MISTAKE..BATTERIES,ICE,WATER,FLASHLIGHTS,GENERATORS,COOLERS,
