Colombian Guerillas Las FARC, offers U.S. prisoner swap

BOGOTA, Colombia, June 28 (UPI) :Colombia's leftist rebels offered to swap three American kidnap victims for two of their leaders being detained in the United States
U.S. officials immediately nixed the idea saying it wouldn't deal with the Marxist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, El Tiempo reported Tuesday. The U.S. State Department considers FARC and other armed leftist groups in Colombia terrorist organizations.Defense contractors Marc Gonsalves, Tom Howes and Keith Stansell were captured in February 2003 when their plan crashed in southern Colombia. Rebels accused the men of being members of the CIA.Click title for link...

Ambassador William B. Wood's Remarks At Remembrance Ceremony
U.S. Embassy in Bogota
We are gathered together to remember the hostages taken captive today by the FARC: Thomas Howe, Marc Gonsalves, and Keith Stansell, and Tom Janis killed by the FARC on that occasion, as well as Sgt. Luis Alcides Cruz, a Colombian colleague whom the FARC also killed. As we think about them, we also remember Mario Alverado, a spray pilot killed by the FARC while working to eradicate the drugs ....And finally "perseverance." A favorite word of President Uribe. We will persevere...And we will persevere in our efforts to return Tom and Marc and Keith to the friends and families and colleagues who miss them so much. With the mercy of God, and the faith that our determination gives us, we will see them home safe and sound, so that we never again must see another February 13 like today. And we will fulfill the mission for which they have sacrificed so much.

cyouincourt007:I support our stance not to negotiate with terrorists and risk motivating further incidents...and while many are concerned with the treatment of those at GITMO...I wonder about the "prison" conditions for these Americans being held by Las Farc and would love to see them back @ home with their families...Bring Them Home...by tongue or by sword but "Make it so"
