France braced for crunch EU vote

Voters in France are set to head to the polls for a key referendum on the European Union's planned constitution.
Citizens in overseas territories such as the Caribbean islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe voted on Saturday.
The French decision is expected to be close on an issue which correspondents say has polarised the nation.
The constitution aims to streamline decision-making in the enlarged EU of 25 countries. It has to be ratified by all member states to become law.
Update:France rejects EU treaty Link

Here in France the people voted not in the referendum in 55 %. We refuse a constitution which does not take into account the citizens of the social side and which privileges the liberal side. As you notice it, French are always so proud and unwilling to follow the other countries when they find that the proposed project is not satisfactory. Even those who govern us were denied and it is going to have there echoed at the level of the government and in the various parties. The people woke up and impose a new vision of the politics . Hello from French which loves more the human being than finances . See you soon

The 55% is not definitivly correct

French President Jacques Chirac..."France has expressed itself democratically. You have rejected the European constitution by a majority. It is your sovereign decision and I take note of it,"...
This is quite a development in this whole European Alliance scenario...

well the problem is that in france, they (some of them) do not know what to vote.
i work in a library and i've seen a lot of people coming and reading books and newspapers to understand what will be the consequence of voting "yes" or "no" ... i've talked with some of them and lot of them told me that they didn't really understand what was the utility of the constitution and then, will not go to vote.
if u read french media, u can see that the opinions of the journalist are not balanced and it is hard to have a neutral view, a real analysis of the question ...
is this big no to the constitution a real decision of the frenches like chirac says ? i wish so but i dont know ...

There will always be people who are clueless about elections and the effects the outcomes will have on citizens. In America it is no different, there are the clueless and those who are informed as to the pending national issues. We also have a biased media who fails to present info in an objective manner. The vote does and should have meaning since it reflects the intent of the majority of people who went out and voted.
