Friday Night Lights In Texas May Soon Be Free Of Sexy Cheerleaders

Schools' Funding Would Be Reduced
One Texas lawmaker wants high school cheerleaders to keep it clean.
State Rep. Al Edwards of Houston is proposing a law to ban dirty dancing by cheerleaders.Edwards wants to put an end to "sexually suggestive" performances by cheerleaders at athletic events and other extracurricular competitions.He's outraged by the way cheerleaders are "shaking their behinds and going on, breaking it down."

And "gyrations," he also didn't like "gyrations." I had something on some of his other stellar proposals (like flogging prisoners and cutting off felons' digits) here. Best,

He wasn't the only one who's feeling disgusted. This student at Austin's LBJ High School lowered the boom on a "dance routine" performed by the school's drill team at a pep rally last September. (ObDisclaimer: she's my daughter, but she's also on LBJ's yearbook staff and an editor on the school's newspaper, and entitled to her opinions. Her post was rewritten somewhat and later published as an op-ed piece in the school newspaper, The Liberator.)
