Dozens of residents displaced after standoff, apartment fire

MARGATE, Fla. - A police standoff preceded a roaring fire that destroyed a Broward County apartment building Sunday, leaving as many as 100 residents seeking shelter elsewhere.One building at the Cross Creek Apartments in Margate, which contained as many as two dozen units, was ravaged by the fire. Many residents were planning to spend Sunday night at shelters opened by the American Red Cross."We lost everything," resident Patrick Dunne told WSVN-TV in Miami. "As far as I know, we lost everything."A security guard who lived and worked at the complex is believed to have died in the fire, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported for its Monday editions...
